Paracord is a lightweight and durable nylon kernmantle rope with its origins in the US military. It was used primarily for parachutes, for example, but also in many other applications. Paracord is known and popular for its versatility. It can be used to tie down a tarp to create a makeshift shelter, secure gear and cargo, or, in a pinch, replace a broken shoelace. Inside the parachute cord are several thin nylon threads that can be used, for example, as fishing line.
